Questions people ask before they start
How do I start speaking Dutch if I freeze when someone talks to me?
Start by saying single sentences out loud, not by studying more grammar. You hear one sentence in a natural Dutch voice, then repeat it aloud before moving on. Ten minutes a day is enough to get the words out of your mouth instead of only recognising them on paper.
What is shadowing, and why does it work for speaking?
Shadowing means listening to a sentence and immediately saying it back, copying the rhythm and pronunciation. Interpreters have used it for decades because it trains the mouth and the ear together — the part that reading, flashcards and grammar drills never touch.
Can I use it to practise for inburgering, NT2 or the staatsexamen?
You can practise the speaking and listening those exams are built around: the doctor (huisarts), the town hall (gemeente), a job interview (sollicitatie), a house viewing, letters from the tax office. The path runs from A1 to B2. It is speaking practice, not an official exam course — use it alongside your course, not instead of it.
Is Learn Dutch Fast free?

Do I need an account to start?
No. The app works fully as a guest and your progress stays on your device. Creating an account (email only) syncs your saved words, history and progress, so nothing is lost when you change phone.
Which language will the word explanations be in?
You choose. Explanations and translations are available in more than 20 languages, including English, Arabic, Turkish, Ukrainian, Russian, Polish, Spanish and Chinese. Tap any Dutch word to get its meaning, pronunciation and an example sentence.
Can I practise with my own Dutch text?
Yes. Paste a letter from the gemeente, a news article or anything else in Dutch, and the app turns it into audio with subtitles you can shadow sentence by sentence.
